Gen Z: Lamentations 4
Yo, the gold's looking dull! How did the finest gold turn into trash? The holy stones are just spilled all over the streets.
The lit kids of Zion, shining like gold, now they’re seen as basic clay pots, just a craftsman's play.
Even the sea beasts are feeding their babies, but my peeps are acting cold, like those ostriches out in the wild.
The little ones are so thirsty, their tongues stick to the roof of their mouths; the kids are asking for bread, but no one's got them.
Those who used to eat like kings are now chilling in the streets; the ones raised in luxury are now in the dumps.
The punishment for my peeps' sins is way worse than Sodom’s, which got wrecked in a flash, with no one to stop it.
Her Nazarites were cleaner than snow, whiter than milk, and more vibrant than rubies, shining like sapphires.
Their faces are darker than coal; you can’t even recognize them in the streets. Their skin's stuck to their bones, looking like twigs.
Those who get taken out by the sword are better off than those who starve; at least the latter are just fading away, missing the crops.
The sad moms cooked their own kids; they were their dinner during the downfall of my people.
The Lord's done with His rage; He unleashed His fierce anger and lit a fire in Zion that burned down its foundations.
The kings and everyone on Earth wouldn’t believe the enemy could crash through Jerusalem’s gates.
It's all because of the prophets' sins and the priests' wrongs, spilling the just's blood right in the middle of it all.
They’ve been wandering blind in the streets, got blood on their hands, so nobody wants to touch their clothes.
They told them to bounce; it's dirty here; leave, leave, don’t touch: when they ran away, they said to the outsiders, “We can't chill here anymore.”
The Lord's anger split them up; He ain't checking for them anymore: they didn’t show love to the priests or the elders.
As for us, our eyes are still searching for help that ain’t coming: we've been watching for a nation that can’t save us.
They’re stalking our moves, so we can't even walk the streets: our time’s almost up, days are done; we’re at the end.
Our chasers are quicker than the eagles in the sky: they hunted us on the hills and set traps in the wild.
The breath of our lives, the Lord’s chosen one, got caught in their traps, the one we thought would keep us safe among the outsiders.
Get hyped and be happy, O daughter of Edom, living in Uz; the cup's coming for you too: you’ll be wasted and exposed.
Your punishment is done, O daughter of Zion; you won’t be taken away anymore: He’ll check your wrongs, O daughter of Edom; your sins are coming to light.
