Gen Z: Jeremiah 37
So King Zedekiah, son of Josiah, took over from Coniah, who Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylon king, made king in Judah. Vibes.
But none of them—Zedekiah, his crew, or the people—listened to what the Lord told Jeremiah. No cap.
Zedekiah hit up Jehucal and Zephaniah, asking Jeremiah to pray to God for them. Lit.
Jeremiah was chillin’ with the people, not in prison or anything. Savage.
Then Pharaoh's army rolled out from Egypt, and when the Chaldeans heard, they dipped from Jerusalem. Bet.
The Lord dropped a message on Jeremiah, saying,
"Yo, tell the king of Judah who sent you to me: Pharaoh's army is heading back to Egypt, periodt."
"The Chaldeans are gonna roll back, fight this city, take it, and light it up." Bussin'.
"Listen up, don’t fool yourselves saying the Chaldeans will bail on us; they’re not going anywhere." Fr.
"Even if you took out their whole squad, the Chaldeans would still pop up and burn this city." Sus.
So, when the Chaldean army split from Jerusalem ‘cause they were shook by Pharaoh’s crew,
Jeremiah bounced out of Jerusalem to chill in Benjamin and separate himself from the crowd.
At the Benjamin gate, a captain named Irijah caught him and was like, "You’re trying to join the Chaldeans!"
Jeremiah was like, "Nah, that’s fake news; I’m not joining them." But Irijah wasn’t having it and brought him to the princes.
The princes were mad at Jeremiah, threw hands, and tossed him in prison at Jonathan the scribe’s spot.
When Jeremiah hit the dungeon and stayed there for a minute,
Zedekiah sent for him, asked secretly, "Got any word from the Lord?" Jeremiah said, "Yeah, you’re getting handed over to Babylon."
"What did I do to you, your crew, or this people to end up in prison?" Jeremiah asked Zedekiah.
"Where are your prophets who said Babylon wouldn’t come for you or this land?"
"So, listen, my dude, king: let my plea be heard; don’t send me back to Jonathan’s place, or I’ll die there."
Zedekiah told them to keep Jeremiah in the court of the prison and give him daily bread from the bakers until all the bread ran out. So, Jeremiah stayed in the court.
