Gen Z: Isaiah 58
Yell it out, don’t hold back, raise your voice like a trumpet, and show my peeps their mess-ups, and the fam of Jacob their sins.
But they be looking for me daily, vibing to know my ways, like a crew that’s righteous, not ditching their God’s rules: they ask me for justice vibes; they’re hyped to get close to God.
They be like, “Why we fast and you ain’t noticing? Why we be hurting ourselves and you don’t care?” But check it, on your fast day you’re just chilling and grinding hard.
For real, you fast just to beef and throw hands with wickedness: you can’t fast like that today just to get your voice heard up high.
Is this the kind of fast I want? A day for a dude to hurt himself? Bowing down like a reed and throwing on sackcloth and ashes? You think that’s a fast and a dope day for the Lord?
Isn’t this the fast I picked? To break the chains of evil, lift heavy burdens, let the oppressed go free, and smash every yoke?
Isn’t it about sharing your bread with the hungry, and bringing the homeless to your crib? When you see the naked, cover them; don’t ghost your own fam.
Then your light will shine like the morning, and your health will bounce back fast: your righteousness will lead the way; the glory of the Lord will be your backup.
Then you’ll call, and the Lord will answer; you’ll cry out, and he’ll say, “I’m here.” If you ditch the yoke, stop pointing fingers, and chill with the drama;
And if you share your soul with the hungry and help the hurting, then your light will shine in the dark, and your darkness will be bright like noon.
And the Lord will guide you all the time, satisfy your soul in dry spells, and beef up your bones: you’ll be like a garden getting watered, and like a spring that never runs dry.
And those who come from you will rebuild the old wrecks: you’ll raise up the foundations for many generations; and you’ll be called, The fixer of the breaks, The restorer of paths to chill in.
If you step away from your own vibe on the sabbath, from doing your thing on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, dope; and honor him, not doing your own stuff, nor chasing your own vibes, nor talking your own words:
Then you’ll find joy in the Lord; and I’ll make you ride the high spots of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your dad: ‘cause the Lord said it, no cap.
