Gen Z: 1 Samuel 9
So there was this dude from Benjamin named Kish, son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Bechorath, son of Aphiah. He was a total beast.
Kish had a son named Saul, who was a total catch and looked fly. No one in Israel was as good-looking as him; he was like a whole head taller than everyone else.
Kish's donkeys went MIA, so he told Saul, "Yo, grab a servant, and let's find those donkeys."
They hit up mount Ephraim and the land of Shalisha, but no luck. Then they checked Shalim and the Benjamites, but still nada.
When they reached Zuph, Saul was like, "Bet, let's bounce back; Dad's gonna freak if we don’t show up."
The servant was like, "Yo, there's a man of God in this city, and he's legit; everything he says goes down. Let’s roll and see if he can help us."
Saul replied, "But fr, what do we even bring him? We’re outta bread and got no gift for the man of God."
The servant said, "I got a quarter shekel of silver; I’ll give it to the man of God to show us the way."
(Back in the day in Israel, when someone wanted to ask God something, they’d say, "Let’s go to the seer," 'cause what we now call a Prophet was once called a Seer.)
Saul told his servant, "Good call; let’s go." So they headed to the city where the man of God was.
So they climbed the hill to the city and spotted some young ladies getting water. They were like, "Yo, is the seer here?"
The girls were like, "For sure, he's here! Hurry up, he just rolled into the city today for a lit sacrifice up at the high place."
Once you hit the city, you’ll find him right away before he heads to the high place to eat. The people won’t chow down until he blesses the sacrifice, then they’ll eat, no cap. So bounce now, you’ll catch him soon.
They went into the city, and bam! Samuel popped out to go up to the high place.
The Lord had already whispered to Samuel the day before Saul showed up, saying,
"Tomorrow around this time, I’m sending you a dude from Benjamin. You’re gonna anoint him as captain over my peeps Israel, and he’ll save them from the Philistines. I’ve seen my people’s struggle, their cries hit different."
When Samuel spotted Saul, the Lord was like, "Check it, that’s the guy I told you about! He’s gonna reign over my people."
Saul rolled up to Samuel at the gate and asked, "Yo, where’s the seer’s crib?"
Samuel replied, "I’m the seer! Head up to the high place with me today, we’re gonna eat, and tomorrow I’ll let you bounce and spill all the tea on your heart."
And about those donkeys you lost three days ago? Chill, they’re found. But like, who’s the main vibe for all of Israel? Isn’t it you and your whole fam?
Saul was like, "Ain't I a Benjamite? My tribe's the smallest, and my fam's the least of all. Why you coming at me like that?"
Samuel brought Saul and his homie into the chill spot, made them sit in the VIP section with the thirty peeps who were invited.
Samuel told the chef, "Yo, bring that special dish I told you to keep on deck."
The chef brought out the shoulder piece and laid it in front of Saul. Samuel was like, "Check it out! This is what’s left, so dig in. I kept it just for you since I invited everyone." So Saul ate with Samuel that day.
After they bounced from the high spot back to the city, Samuel had a heart-to-heart with Saul on the roof.
They woke up early, and Samuel called Saul to the roof, saying, "Get up, I gotta send you off." Saul got up, and they both headed out.
As they were walking to the edge of the city, Samuel told Saul, "Tell your homie to go ahead of us, but you chill here for a sec so I can drop some God wisdom on you."
