Gen Z: Joshua 2
Joshua, son of Nun, sent two dudes from Shittim to check out the land, especially Jericho. They rolled up and crashed at this girl Rahab’s place.
Word got to the king of Jericho that some peeps from Israel snuck in to scope out the area.
The king hit up Rahab, like, “Yo, bring out those guys who came to your crib. They’re here to spy.”
Rahab took the two guys and hid them, saying, “Yeah, some dudes came by, but I don’t know where they went.”
It was getting dark when the men left, and she was like, “I don’t know where they went, but chase them quick; you might catch up.”
She had them up on the roof, hiding under some flax stalks she laid out.
The dudes chased after them to the Jordan, and once they were gone, she shut the gate.
Before they settled down, she came up to them on the roof.
She told the guys, “I know the Lord’s giving you this land, and we’re all scared of you. Everyone’s shook.”
We heard how the Lord parted the Red Sea for you when you left Egypt, and what you did to those two kings, Sihon and Og—total destruction, no cap.
As soon as we heard that, our hearts melted. We lost all our courage because of you. Your God is the real deal, up in heaven and down here on earth.
So, can you swear to me by the Lord? I showed you kindness, so show my fam some love and give me a true sign.
Save my dad, mom, siblings, and their stuff, and keep us alive from death.
The guys replied, “Our lives for yours, if you don’t spill our tea. When the Lord gives us the land, we’ll treat you right.”
She let them down with a cord through the window since her crib was on the city wall.
She told them, “Get to the mountains, so the pursuers don’t catch you; hide there for three days until they come back, then you can bounce.”
The guys said, “We’re not gonna be held accountable for this oath you made us swear.”
When we come back, tie this scarlet thread in your window, the same one you used to let us down, and bring your fam home.
If anyone leaves your house and hits the streets, their blood is on their own head. We’ll be good; but if they’re in your crib, we got their back.
If you tell anyone about this, we’re off the hook for the oath you made us swear.
She said, “Cool, I’ll do just that.” Then she sent them off, and they left, tying the scarlet line in the window.
They went to the mountain and chilled there for three days until the pursuers came back, but they couldn’t find them.
The two guys came back down from the mountain and went to Joshua, telling him everything that went down.
They said to Joshua, “For real, the Lord has handed over all the land to us; everyone’s scared of us.”
