Gen Z: John 21
After all that, Jesus showed up again to the squad at the sea of Tiberias; and this is how he popped off.
Simon Peter, Thomas (aka Didymus), Nathanael from Cana, the Zebedee bros, and two other homies were all vibin' together.
Simon Peter said, "Bet, I'm going fishing." They were like, "We’re down too." They jumped in a boat right away, but that night they caught nada.
When morning hit, Jesus was chillin' on the shore, but the disciples had no clue it was him.
Jesus asked them, "Yo, you got any food?" They replied, "Nah, fam."
He told them, "Throw the net on the right side of the boat, and you’ll find some." They did, and it was so lit they couldn't even pull it up because of all the fish.
The disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, "That's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard it was Jesus, he threw on his fisher’s coat (he was kinda exposed) and dove into the sea.
The other disciples came in a small boat (they weren’t far from shore, like 200 cubits) dragging the net full of fish.
When they got to land, they saw a fire with coals, fish on it, and bread chillin' there.
Jesus told them, "Bring the fish you just caught."
Simon Peter went up and pulled the net to shore, full of big fish—153 of them! And even with that many, the net was still good.
Jesus said, "Come and eat." None of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" 'Cause they knew it was the Lord.
Jesus came, took the bread, gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.
This was the third time Jesus showed himself to his squad after he rose from the dead.
So after they ate, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Yo, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me more than these?" Peter replied, "For real, Lord; you know I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
He asked him again, "Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?" Peter said, "For real, Lord; you know I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."
He asked a third time, "Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?" Peter was hurt 'cause he asked him three times, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know everything; you know I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."
For real, I’m telling you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted; but when you get old, you’ll stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and take you where you don’t wanna go.
He said this to show how Peter would glorify God. After saying that, he told him, "Follow me."
Then Peter looked back and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who leaned on Jesus' chest at supper and asked, "Lord, who’s the traitor?"
Peter asked Jesus, "What about this dude?"
Jesus replied, "If I want him to stick around until I come back, what’s it to you? You follow me."
This saying spread among the crew that this disciple wouldn’t die; but Jesus didn’t say he wouldn’t die, just, "If I want him to stick around until I come back, what’s it to you?"
This is the disciple who testifies about these things and wrote them down; we know his testimony is legit.
And there are so many other things Jesus did, that if we wrote them all down, even the whole world couldn’t hold the books that would be written. Amen.
