Gen Z: 2 Chronicles 24
Joash was just seven when he started his reign, and he ruled for forty years in Jerusalem. His mom was Zibiah from Beer-sheba, no cap.
Joash was out here doing what was right in the Lord's eyes as long as Jehoiada the priest was around, fr.
Jehoiada hooked him up with two wives, and he had sons and daughters, vibin' hard.
After a bit, Joash was like, "We gotta fix up the Lord's house," and that was the move.
He gathered the priests and Levites, telling them to hit up the cities of Judah for cash to repair God's crib, but the Levites were kinda sus about it.
The king called out Jehoiada, asking why the Levites weren't bringing in the funds from Judah and Jerusalem like Moses said, periodt.
The sons of Athaliah, that wicked queen, totally wrecked God's house and gave all the holy stuff to Baalim, savage.
So the king had them make a chest and put it outside the Lord's house gate, keeping it real.
They spread the word through Judah and Jerusalem to bring in the collection Moses laid down for the Lord back in the day, no cap.
Everyone was hyped and brought their stuff to the chest until they were done, it was lit.
So, like, when the chest was brought to the king’s spot by the Levites, they saw mad cash in there. The king’s scribe and the high priest’s dude came through, emptied it out, and took it back. They did this every day, stacking up the dough.
The king and Jehoiada were like, “Bet, let’s give this to the peeps working on the Lord’s house,” hiring masons and carpenters to fix things up, plus iron and brass workers to get it all sorted.
The workers popped off, and the job was lit; they got the house of God back in shape and made it strong.
Once they wrapped it up, they brought the leftover cash to the king and Jehoiada, making cool stuff for the Lord’s house, like vessels to use and offer, plus gold and silver spoons. They kept it bussin’ with burnt offerings all the time while Jehoiada was around.
But then Jehoiada got old and full of life when he passed; dude was 130 years deep when he died.
They laid him to rest in the city of David with the kings ‘cause he was a straight-up legend in Israel, both for God and his house.
After Jehoiada passed, the princes of Judah rolled up and showed respect to the king, and the king listened up.
But then they dipped from the house of the Lord, serving groves and idols, and it was sus; wrath hit Judah and Jerusalem for that mess.
Still, he sent prophets to pull them back to the Lord; they spoke truth, but the people were like, “Nah,” and didn’t listen.
The Spirit of God hit Zechariah, Jehoiada’s son, who stood above the crowd and said, “Yo, God’s saying, why you breaking the Lord’s commandments and not thriving? You ghosted the Lord, so He ghosted you too.”
They lowkey plotted against him and threw stones at him on the king's orders in the Lord's house. Savage vibes.
Joash totally forgot the kindness his dad Jehoiada showed him and straight-up killed his son. When he died, he was like, "Lord, you see this, right?"
So, at the end of the year, Syria rolled up on him, hitting Judah and Jerusalem, wrecking all the leaders and sending the loot to the king of Damascus.
The Syrian squad came with a small crew, but the Lord handed them a massive army 'cause they ghosted their God. Judgment day for Joash, fr.
After they bounced from him (he was super sick), his own crew plotted against him for Jehoiada's son and took him out in his bed. They buried him in David's city, but not with the kings.
The peeps who conspired against him were Zabad, Shimeath's son from Ammon, and Jehozabad, Shimrith's son from Moab.
About his sons, the heavy stuff he dealt with, and fixing up God's house, it's all in the kings' story. His son Amaziah took over.
